Samsung says RAM costs will likely lead to price hikes soon
It's going to affect everyone, Samsung's marketing leader said. A problem has been detected. Samsung says AI data center-fueled RAM scarcity could raise the company's prices. Wonjin Lee, Samsung's global marketing leader, sounded the alarm in an interview with on Tuesday at CES 2026. As recently as early December, Samsung told that it was monitoring the market but wouldn't comment on pricing.
IoT 2020: Trends and Challenges TechNative
However, a recent McKinsey study, What separates leaders from laggards in the Internet of Things, found that only around one sixth of the world's largest companies adopting IoT are seeing any kind of significant return on investment. New trends and business models are emerging, and the way we plan, envision, and discuss the IoT will likely change in 2019. Sensor data is a core component of IoT technology, but most sensors in use today monitor machinery or tech infrastructure. Throughout 2019, employees can be expected to interact more with IoT technology. Performance management software has long played a role in the workplace, and the IoT can enable more comprehensive data gathering and better analysis of employee performance.
Self-driving cars will likely lead to more sex on the road, study says
Ford Motor Company is partnering with Walmart and Postmates to study how consumers would handle self-driving cars making deliveries to their doors. Self-driving vehicles have been expected to bring all kinds of futuristic benefits, including smarter cities and safer streets and highways. But some U.K. researchers have identified a potentially more risqué repercussion of the autonomous vehicle revolution: more sex in cars since no one has to be behind the wheel. More than a dozen automakers and companies such as Uber, Lyft and Alphabet's self-driving car company Waymo have been testing autonomous vehicles. While some accidents have slowed those tests, overall safety is expected to be enhanced with autonomous net-connected vehicles, with researchers estimating up to 90 percent of traffic accidents could be avoided, U.K. researchers Scott Cohen, a tourism and transport professor at the University of Surrey, and Debbie Hopkins, a geography and environmental researcher University of Oxford, write in the Annals of Tourism Research. Autonomous vehicles are expected to be widely available by 2025 and, the most optimistic forecasts indicate, the primary means of car transportation globally, they say.
Confirmed: Deep Learning Is Coming to Google Translate Slator
Google confirmed they plan to improve Google Translate's accuracy through artificial intelligence called deep learning. Deep learning is an advanced model of machine learning where an algorithm takes what it has already "learned" (data previously processed) and uses it to form new ways to solve problems in a pattern. Jeff Dean, Google Senior Fellow, confirmed that his team has been working with the Google Translate team to "scale out experiments with translation based on deep learning." Deep learning and technologies derived from it, including deep and recurrent neural nets, are objectively excellent at tackling sequential problems such as speech and image recognition, as long as there is sufficient existing material to train them. On that front, Google Translate's vast data trove of translated material should indeed prove quite useful.
